Our 4th of July on Hadlock Lake
What a wonderful time the 4th turned out to be!!! For nearly 3 months, we had planned on going on a family camping trip up in the Adirondacks for the 4th. Well, Mommy decided that going to a remote camping sight with no running water and no real bathroom at 21 weeks pregnant wasn't really sounding all that fun anymore, so she decided a week prior to leaving, that she would stay home with Kathleen while the rest of the crew enjoyed the great outdoors. The day before everyone was going to head out (which was Wed.), J.D. checked the weather forcast and saw that it was going to be 30%-60% chance rain and thunder for the next 48 hours where they were planning on going (no suprise since we have had weeks of rain and thunderstorms). Needless to say, we had a family counsil and decided that staying home was just smarter and safer. We promised the kids some swimming at the high school pool, putting up the two man tent in the basement for them to sleep in, smores over the gas stove, and a trip to the Albany museum where they could ride the 100 year old carousel. That worked. Then Thursday afternoon we got an invite to go up to our friends lakehouse for some boating, water skiing and BBQing. We were there!!! A couple of other families who we love were invited also. Fun! Fun! Fun!! Luckily, Saturday turned out to be beautiful; one of the best days we have had for quite some time. Our friends lakehouse is only about an hour away, real close to famous Lake George. Everything was fantastic. The food and company were the best. What is it about hot dogs off a charcoal grill? It was so relaxing to sit on the shore and watch my kids having the time of their lives, playing in the water for hours. Kathleen preferred sitting in a little kids chair next to me most of the time. She loved the smores! I got to go out on the lake in the boat with Kimball, Camille and Kathleen while we watched Karsen hang on as the boat pulled her in the water tube. Then I had a ball watching J.D. and one of our friends show their great upper body strength ability on the water tubes, as the boat wasn't nearly as gentle to them as to the other kids. I haven't laughed that hard and long for a long time. J.D. was very impressive on the wake board, his prior snow boarding skills helping him out a lot. He was pretty stiff the next morning. It has been years since I have been on a boat so honestly, this was a huge treat!! We can't thank our friends enough for having us up and providing such an amazing day. Happy 4th of July!!
